Charles Whitehead Wewahitchka Public Library

On Tuesday, October 18, the GFWC Wewahitchka Woman's Club provided chili, hot dogs and desserts for the families involved in the six-week family reading program at the Charles Whitehead Wewahitchka Public Library.

Spanning a six-week period, the literacy program brings eight families together each Tuesday at the library for dinner, fun, reading, and questions about what has been read.  The main focus of this program is to encourage reading together as families, and to encourage reading in students just starting school.

Research shows that encouraging reading within the family has great lifelong benefits on many levels. A side benefit is that these eight families of all different ages get up close and personal with the library and all it has to offer.

The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman's Club is excited to participate in this community program, as well as many others throughout the year.

Last Spring, (March and April 2016) several of our members volunteered to read to the 3rd grade classes of WES (Wewahitchka Elementary School).

This project was done in cooperation with the local Public Library to encourage students to get a library card.

A Pizza Party was given for the 3rd grade students as a culminating activity.
